The man I purchased this top hat from told me it is made of beaver and would have been worn in the mid 19th century by a man of means. I must admit, I know nothing about tops hats, I just like the way it looks sitting on a table with a document and early glasses. It has some ware, but I liked that, it shows it was put to good use.
